Patterns

Each Maakola garment holds a collection of voices, starting with the women who named their fabrics at the Makola market in Ghana more than a century ago. Patterns come with stories that tap into the African heritage and bear meanings important for people using them in their lives. Patterns reflect cultural backgrounds and sense-making practices and help people define who they are and what they stand for. Appreciating the heritage, we carefully embed patterns used by Ghanian women into Maakola collections, considering the values and meaning behind them. And we hope you find the stories of those patterns as exciting and insightful as we do.
